Living a healthy lifestyle has exceptional benefits on your health.

Not only can it add years to your life, it can also reduce the risk of various diseases such as such as Diabetes, Cancer and Obesity.

Our body is our temple and we should be taking care of it on a daily basis.

Living healthy is also important for you wellbeing. Your brain craves nutrients to function properly and food has a huge impact on your mood and the way you feel.

Here are some great healthy foods you should try and eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle and boost your mood:

• Poultry – skinless

• Fish

And below are foods/drinks you should eat in moderation or as a treat:

You should try and eat 3 meals per day in moderate portions. You should eat enough to satisfy your hunger and then stop eating. Healthy snacks can be added 2-3 times per day to stop your appetite increasing too much when it comes to meal times.

Drinking lots of water is also essential for helping our bodies to function. The majority of us don’t drink enough water every day.

You should be aiming to drink 2-3 litres of water per day. You may need more or less depending on your weight or physical activity.

You may also need to drink more water on a hot or humid day.

Exercise and physical activity is a huge contributor towards living a healthy lifestyle.

Exercising regularly can improve strength and muscle mass as well as improving balance and flexibility.

It can also help prevent diseases such as obesity, stroke, heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Exercise is also a great way of boosting your mood and increasing your self esteem and confidence.

Eliminating bad habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Smoking can cause your arteries to clog up and lead to strokes and heart attacks as well as cancer.

If you are serious about quitting smoking, speak to your GP for advice who can arrange a variety of different solutions to help you give up.

Alcohol should be drunk in moderation. Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to Liver Cirrohosis which can then eventually lead to liver cancer.

If you feel you may be alcohol dependent, get help and speak to your GP immediately.

We choose how we want to live our lives and ultimately, it’s only you who can make changes.

As well as living healthy, in order to be happy, we need to learn to love ourselves and maintain positive mental health. If your mental health is deteriorating, then keeping a healthy lifestyle is almost unachievable.

Self love and happiness is crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
