Obesity may increase with five hours or more daily smartphone use

You may be surprised to learn that excessive calorific intake, stress, genes and inactivity are joined by a modern phenomenon that can cause an increase in obesity; excess smartphone usage.

According to a study by the American College of Cardiology, there was a 43% increased chance of obesity in students who used their smartphones for five or more hours per day.

This was in part due be twice as likely to drink sugary drinks, east more fast food and snacks, and lower levels of physical activity.

Although a small study in size, it is clear that for general wellbeing including improved physical and mental health, using your phone less may have more benefits than you realise!
